The difference between the TIG and MIG welding

Date:2016-10-13

Gas tungsten arc welding is a non-melting tungsten electrode welding arc welding. When GTAW welding, weld area in order to shield gas block air pollution (the widespread use of argon and other inert gas), and usually with the use of solder (filler metal), but some from melting weld can omit this step. Welding, by a conduction through highly ionized gas and metal vapor (i.e., plasma) arc, as a constant current welding power supply to provide energy.GTAW welding commonly used in sheet metal welding stainless steel and aluminum, magnesium, copper alloys and other non-ferrous metals. Compared to manual arc welding and gas metal arc welding. It is easier to control the welding, improve the welding quality. However, GTAW welding is more complicated and difficult to be master, and the welding speed is significantly slower than other welding methods. Another similar to GTAW welding method: plasma arc welding, using a slightly different welding torch to create a more focused welding arc. It is often used in an automated process.

The difference between the TIG and MIG welding

1. TIG welding is usually a hand-held torch, the other hand hold wire, suitable for small-scale operation and repair of manual welding

2. MIG and MAG, wire through automatic gun fed from the wire feeder, suitable for automatic welding, of course, can also manually processed.

3. The main difference MIG and MAG is in a protective atmosphere. Equipment is similar, but the former general with argon protect for welding metals. The latter is an argon gas mixed with carbon dioxide, suitable for welding high strength steel and high alloy steel.

4. TIG, MIG welding both are inert gas, commonly known as Argon Arc welding. Inert gas can be improved argon or helium. But argon is cheap, so it is commonly use. So the inert gas is generally referred to as Argon Arc welding.
